In the first iteration of Pool Without Water, I attempted to make the rendered image resemble a photograph by recreating the space of a film photo in three dimensions. This rendering accurately depicts the space as I would have lit it based on my own night lighting experiences. However, it is also poorly written. It still appears to be a real photograph even though I have shaped and controlled all the details and lighting. The night I expected from this scene is depicted in this image.
What I have done in this work is more like a pictorial transformation of space. Figurative painting is the complete transformation of a thing or a scene, where the painter paints a picture of what they expect the scene to look like, a transformation in a painting style. It is worth mentioning that although I call it a "pictorial transformation", this work is essentially a photorealism painting, not a pictorial photography or photography. It is inseparable from the photograph that exists, a photograph that separates the rendered image from the real world, which a transformation of the medium that photorealism also has.
