a ramble in the suburbs

2018 - 2021
When urban spaces are viewed as landscapes, the light and the area it illuminates at night illustrate the extent this location has changed due to human habitation. I am drawn to the stage-like quality and unfamiliarity of urban areas, as it presents a unique opportunity to explore the intersections between the built environment and human experience. These photos depict similar scenarios and constant changes between the city where my university is located and my hometowns, which I return to every six months.Using the act of rambling as the main photographic opportunity, I mainly used 120 films in my early works. I pay attention to the state of urban development, especially the plants and construction sites. Even a few weeks after I take a photo there, it will have changed significantly. Urban space is not always stable; people’s perceptions are frequently renewed by new changes, which evoke a variety of emotions and sensations that are both exhilarating and disorienting. By constantly visiting these sites as samples, I document the similar states and changes of these places.
